The Belgium international has been a long-term target for the Stamford Bridge club, as Andre Villas Boas looks to add young, exciting players to his inherited squad.
The Pro League outfit have admitted that their sporting director Dirk Degraen has travelled to England to discuss terms with Chelsea, with a move expected to be finalised in the near future.
“Dirk Degraen is in London and the expectation is that it (the transfer of De Bruyne) will be finished this week,” a Genk spokesman reportedly said according to Sky Sports.
“The assumption is that Kevin de Bruyne will be transferred to Chelsea and then will finish the season (on loan) at Genk.”
A transfer fee of around £8 million is being touted, and De Bruyne will follow in the footsteps of countrymen Romelu Lukaku and Thibaut Courtois in signing for Chelsea.
