Chelsea join Man United in race for £15m England international

Chelsea have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Southampton star Nathaniel Clyne, according to reports from the Mirror.

The Premier League duo will battle it out for the defender, who only has 18 months left on his St. Mary’s contract.

United boss Louis van Gaal is desperately keen on signing a right-back this summer, with the likes of Everton’s Seamus Coleman and FC Porto star Danilo also targets.

But it is Clyne who tops Van Gaal’s wishlist, however the Red Devils will face stiff competition from Chelsea for his signature.

The Blues are looking to sign the England international to boost the number of home-grown players in the squad, and are considering a £15million move to bring Clyne to Stamford Bridge.

However, the Saints are looking to keep the 23-year-old at the club, and are already in talks over a contract extension.

Clyne joined Southampton back in 2012 from Crystal Palace, and has played 26 games this season.
