Chelsea have moved ahead of Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus, according to the Daily Star.
The 25-year-old has consistently been linked with a move away from the Westfalenstadion in January, having rejected a new contract with Jurgen Klopp’s side.
A £20million release clause is activated in his current deal at the end of the season, meaning Dortmund will listen to higher offers when the transfer window opens this winter.
And reports in Spain suggest Chelsea have moved ahead of their Premier League rivals in the race to sign the coveted forward.
Spanish newspaper Marca suggests Jose Mourinho has already put the wheels in motion to complete the deal, but faces a battle with former club Real Madrid to land the German international.
According to FIFA agent Francois Gallardo, the reigning European champions will snap up the Dortmund ace in December.
Speaking earlier this week, he said: “At the beginning of December, the agent of a very top player will be in Madrid to close the signing.
“It will be a player who would fall in love and some €25 million.
“Reus will close his move to Madrid in early December.”
But Jose Mourinho remains confident he can lure the forward – who fired 23 goals in 43 appearances for Dortmund last season – to west London.
