Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has told Atletico Madrid he is willing to match Filipe Luis’ release clause in order to bring him to Stamford Bridge, Daily Mail reports.
The Blues are currently in the hunt for a new left-back ever since the departure of Ashley Cole, and they are now holding nothing back in their pursuit for Atletico’s Luis.
The Brazilian has a buy-out clause of £21million, which Mourinho is willing to match.
Luis played a pivotal role in Atletico’s successes last season, in which the La Liga side won the league and went to the UEFA Champions League final.
And it is now expected that the full-back will follow team-mates Diego Costa and Thibaut Courtois to London at the beginning of the next campaign.
It is reported that Tiago, who used to play for Chelsea, could also make a welcome return.
Mourinho is looking for an overhaul of last season’s squad, having already sold defender David Luiz in a massive £50million deal and purchase former Gunner Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona.
Meanwhile Atletico themselves are also keen on Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku, and could use one of their players in a potential swap-deal.
