Frank Lampard looks set to stay at Chelsea for another season after reports claimed he is close to signing a new deal.
The 35-year-old looked destined to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season as Chelsea officials refused to offer him new terms, but they have performed a U-turn and he now looks set to stay.
The fact that Lampard has proven he still has what it takes to play at the highest level this season may have had something to do with it, but so will the imminent rumoured return of Mourinho.
The former Blues boss is in line to take over from interim manager Rafael Benitez at the end of the season and he will no doubt have told the powers that be to keep Lampard on for another season.
Lampard had offers on the table from clubs in America and China but his preferred choice was always to stay at Chelsea and the news comes as a huge boost ahead of Wednesday night’s Europa League final.
