Chelsea are close to completing a loan move for Monaco star Radamel Falcao by offering midfielder Mario Pasalic as part of the deal, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
Falcao spent last season on loan at Old Trafford, but struggled for form and fitness for much of the campaign, in which he scored only four league goals.
The Red Devils therefore rejected the opportunity to sign him on a permanent deal, which has opened the door for Chelsea to make a summer offer.
Despite the Colombian’s struggles, Blues boss Jose Mourinho sees Falcao as the perfect replacement for Didier Drogba, and is adamant that he can get Falcao back to his best.
“It really hurts me that people in England believe that Falcao is the guy they saw at Manchester United,” he said.
“He’s a player I know, one that I’ve followed since Atletico Madrid and if I can help Falcao arrive at his level I will do it.”
Initial talks between the two clubs stalled with Monaco pushing for a £35m permanent move, but Chelsea only wanted a loan deal.
But negotiations seem to have smoothed after the Premier League champions offered Croatia international Pasalic, who was on loan at Elche last season, in exchange for Falcao.
The 18-year-old could be the perfect replacement for heavily-coveted Monaco star Geoffrey Kondogbia, as the midfielder is expected to leave amid interest from AC Milan.
