Chelsea pair left out by Spain

Juan Mata - Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata and striker Fernando Torres have both been left out of the Spain squad for upcoming World Cup qualifier against Finland by boss Vicente Del Bosque, as reported by the Independent.

The Blues pair have only started once each under Jose Mourinho in the Premier League so far this season and both of their futures have been in doubt in recent weeks, with their relegation from the national squad only set to enhance the speculation with just two days of the transfer window remaining.

Mata in particular has seemingly not impressed Mourinho and one 60 minute appearance is all the Spaniard has to show for so far this season, with a move to Arsenal or Manchester United being rumoured.

The attacking midfielder was Chelsea’s best player last season and some thought he deserved the overall Premier League top player gong at the end of the campaign.

New additions to the West Londoners squad will hinder first team opportunities for a number of players this season as Mourinho now has seven or eight attacking midfielders to choose from.

Torres failed to shine again last season but Mourinho is set to give him a chance despite signing Samuel Eto’o on Thursday; however both him and Mata will have to work hard to get into Spain’s next squad and possibly World Cup squad this season.
