Chelsea are prepared to enter a £150million battle with rivals Manchester United for the signature of Real Madrid duo Gareth Bale and Raphael Varane, according to reports from the Express.
Jose Mourinho has been tracking Varane ever since the summer, as he has already worked with the centre-back during his time in Spain.
The Blues’ Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain has urged the Portuguese boss to improve his squad, and sees the likes of Bale as the perfect attacking option.
However, United are not backing down easily, as they are also closely monitoring the situation of the Madrid duo, both of whom are believed to be unsettled at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Bale has been heavily criticised by his own fans in recent weeks, while a speculated breakdown in relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo may fuel his decision to leave the Spanish capital.
In regards to Varane, he is said to be unhappy with his limited role under Carlo Ancelotti, and may be looking for a way out in order to gain access to regular first-team football elsewhere.
