Chelsea have been halted in their chase to sign Antoine Griezmann after Atletico Madrid demanded a transfer fee of £46million, according to reports from the Express.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge ever since the start of the summer, but the Blues looked to have stepped up their chase following the 3-0 defeat to title rivals Manchester City at the weekend.
It was believed that club owner Roman Abramovich was ready to fund a £21million move for the France international, but he may now need to add another £25million to his offer.
Spanish media outlet AS Diario has claimed that the Atletico star currently has a £46million buy-out clause tied to his contract after deciding to sign an extension.
The new deal could see him remain with the club until at least 2020, while it will also mean that he will not be allowed to leave for a cut-price fee.
Griezmann featured 53 times in all competitions for his side last term, scoring 25 goals while providing a further six assists.
