Long-term Chelsea scout and transfer advisor Piet de Visser has admitted that he is a big fan of Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele and has urged the Blues to sign the Belgian in the past.
The West London club have had a campaign to forget as outgoing champions and will make a number of major personnel changes this summer following the arrival of Antonio Conte as manager.
Dembele has been an underrated member of the Spurs team fighting for the title and has had an inconsistent time of it over recent years at White Hart Lane.
However, the former Fulham star has been in inspired form in the centre of Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield alongside Eric Dier this term and is now a key man for the North London club.
De Visser has sang the praises of the central midfielder and admitted that he has recommended Chelsea to sign the Belgium international in the past.
“I fell in love with Mousa Dembele during the 2008 Olympics. He’s a world class player but they have often played him out of position,” the veteran scout told HLN, translated to English by Metro.
“He’s not a striker or a second striker, not even a number 10. He’s at his best as a central midfielder, as an ‘8’. He will never score 15 goals in a season, but he has a high work rate , a strong body and an excellent passing game.
“I’ve often advised Chelsea to sign him but other scouts and manager weren’t convinced.”
