Chelsea are believed to have seen a £100million bid for Raphael Varane and Gareth Bale rejected by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, according to reports from the Mirror.
Blues manager Jose Mourinho was prepared to splash the cash in order to secure the services of the Welsh winger as well as the French centre-back.
Having managed Madrid between 2010 and 2013, he is already aware of the huge talent that comes with Varane and is keen to use him to create a defensive pairing alongside fellow France international Zurt Zouma.
Chelsea are also interested in bringing Bale to Stamford Bridge after being alerted to his struggles to adapt to the squad, and criticism he’s received from Madrid fans.
Manchester United are among the teams interested in luring the Wales international to their side, but the European champions are not open to letting him depart at the moment.
Varane was also linked with an exit earlier in the season, but Perez has announced on more than one occasion that both his stars are not for sale.
