Chelsea set for summer spending spree

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich

The Sun is reporting that Roman Abramovich is ready to embark on another summer spending spree. The Russian has never really been shy of spending money – but it had looked that he had calmed down a bit. But classic Abramovich spending returned in the January transfer window when Chelsea splashed out £72m on Fernando Torres and David Luiz. The Russain wants to see Chelsea play a more attacking and thrilling style of football next season – what some people call sexy football.

To achieve this goal Abramovich wants to see key signings in a creative midfielder, flying winger and a classy right back. Chief executive Ron Gourlay has been instructed to draw up a list of potential targets. Top targets include Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas, Tottenham’s winger Gareth Bale and Dutch defender Gregory van der Wiel. Other targets may include Wesley Sneijder, Thomas Muller, Adam Johnson, Matt Jarvis, Ashley Young, Jack Rodwell, Marouane Fellaini, Luka Modric and Andrey Arshavin.

A Chelsea insider says “Roman has always wanted to see a Chelsea side that played what he calls ‘sexy football.’ He’d rather see a match where they win 4-3 in swashbuckling style than grind out a 1-0 result.”
