Chelsea set to consider move for Southampton striker

Chelsea are planning to make an offer to sign Graziano Pelle from Southampton to provide manager Guus Hiddink with more options up top, ESPN reports via Daily Star.

The 30-year-old could now be on his way out of the club following the scoring form of Shane Long and the recent addition of Charlie Austin in a £4million deal from Queens Park Rangers.

Hiddink has been left frustrated with his current crop of Blues strikers as Diego Costa, Loic Remy, and Radamel Falcao have all been struggling with injuries this season.

Saints boss Ronald Koeman recently hinted that Pelle is not likely to be given a new contract and could be offloaded in the summer.

“The situation of Graziano is a little bit different than other players because Graziano will be 31 and 32 at the end of next year and that’s difficult,” he said.

“It’s too early to conclude about his future. I know it’s left one season on the contract but it’s too early now to talk about his future.”

The Italy international was a regular feature for his side earlier in the season, but looks to have lost out on his starting role to in-form Long.

He has started 15 Premier League matches and came on as a substitute a two further times this term, scoring six goals.
