Chelsea are now favourites to sign William Carvalho, despite huge interest from Arsenal throughout the summer window, Express reports.
Jose Mourinho has already added two big-name stars to his side, with the additions of both Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona as well as Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid.
It is believed that he is now searching for yet another star and with the potential move for Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira still uncertain, the Portuguese manager could instead turn to the 22-year-old anchorman.
Should Carvalho, who is said to be valued at around £36million, make a move to Stamford Bridge, the club’s current holding midfield players such as John Obi Mikel and Ramires could see very limited playing time or even be forced towards an exit.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been looking for a player that can fill his defensive midfield role throughout the summer and has revealed more than once that the Sporting Lisbon star was one of his top targets.
