Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has revealed that star striker Diego Costa will not be leaving the club for a return to Atletico Madrid, according to reports from the Mirror.
Costa has been heavily linked with a move to former club Atletico after a troubling campaign, in which the Spain international has struggled for form and has been involved in a couple of bust-ups with his manager.
And only recently, the 27-year-old did not deny the possibility of returning to La Liga, claiming that “life is full of surprises” and he could consider a switch.
The speculation came right after Costa was left out of the starting lineup against Tottenham Hotspur two weeks ago, but Mourinho has now stated that he thinks the Brazilian-born ace will not leave Stamford Bridge anytime soon.
He said: “Atletico is a great club, La Liga is a great league, so why should a 28-year-old player not think it is possible to go back?”
“I don’t see a problem. He is happy here. He has, I think, three more years under contract.
“I see him staying at Chelsea for three more years, no problem.”
Costa was brought back into Mourinho’s first eleven in their 2-0 Champions League win against FC Porto last week, and is expected to lead the line against in-form Leicester City at the KingPower Stadium on Monday.
