Thibaut Courtois Atletico Madrid goalkeeper

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois belives he is ready to battle with Petr Cech to become the Blues number one now, as reported by Sky Sports.

The Belgian international is spending a third consecutive season on loan at La Liga club Atletico Madrid where he has really made his name.

Courtois has claimed that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho wanted the stopper to stay at Stamford Bridge or join another Premier League on loan to get used to English football.

However, the 21 year old always wanted to rejoin Atletico for one more season and Champions League football combined with a good chance of making the Belgian national side for the World Cup in Brazil for which they have basically qualified.

“The club and Jose Mourinho wanted me back for this season.

“They also considered the option of sending me out to a team in the Premier League.

“But I was not interested in this option. I feel good in Madrid and wanted to play in the Champions League with Atletico.

“I could have gone back to Chelsea and it may have worked out perfectly, but then again I may not have been playing and could have risked losing my starting place with the national team. It would have been a risk for the World Cup.”

“I was not afraid of fighting for a spot with Petr Cech. I have no fear of anyone, I believe in my qualities.”
