Chelsea have submitted an offer in the attempt to beat Arsenal to Real Madrid star Sami Khedira, Metro reports.
Khedira was heavily linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu for much of the summer after falling down the Los Blancos midfield pecking order due to the arrivals of James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos.
Arsenal were close to signing the Germany World Cup winner but Khedira’s wage demands were an obstacle in completing the switch.
However, according to Spanish website Fichajes, Chelsea have made an official bid in the attempts of luring the former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder to Stamford Bridge this January.
The 27-year-old will be out of a contract at the end of the season, forcing Real to find a suitor or risk Khedira departing the club for free next summer.
Jose Mourinho is a big fan of Khedira during his tenure in charge of Real Madrid and will see this as the best opportunity to be reunited with the German.
The Gunners are closely monitoring the situation and could make a last minute swoop due to the high number of injuries in the Arsenal midfield.
