Chelsea are believed to be closing in on a deal to sign Boca Juniors star Jonathan Calleri during the upcoming January window, Metro reports.
The 22-year-old is already being tipped to leave by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano after he saw his side win the Argentine Premier League this season.
He also claimed that a £9.8million offer for the services of the striker was tabled as Calleri edges close to completing a switch to the English top flight.
However, it is still unsure whether he will have a place in the squad upon his arrival as manager Jose Mourinho could consider loaning him out to another club in order to help him further develop elsewhere.
The Blues have been linked with the Argentine forward in the past and could step up their chase when the window reopens as they look to find a replacement for struggling star Radamel Falcao.
He featured in 26 league games for his side so far this past term and was also able to register a total of 10 goals throughout the season.
