Chelsea to use Kakuta in part-exchange deal

Chelsea's Gael KakutaChelsea are set to offer Marseille Gael Kakuta as part of their attempts to sign Cesar Azpilicueta, The Daily Mail report.

The west London side have already added a raft of young stars to their Champions League winning squad this summer, but are now on the trail of a new right-back to offer competition to Paulo Ferreira and Branislav Ivanovic.

Despite considering a move for Lille and France defender Mathieu Debuchy, Azpilicueta has emerged as Roman Abramovich’s number one choice for the position.

The Blues have had at least one offer for the Spaniard rejected by the Stade Velodrome outfit, and are set to offer Kakuta in the latest bid.

Kakuta has not lived up to expectations since moving to Stamford Bridge, and has spent lengthy periods of time on loan elsewhere.

Marseille are said to have upped their valuation of Azpilicueta to £15 million amid Chelsea’s interest.
