Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has stated that his side will have to be at 100 per cent to challenge Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, and that the game will be a big test for both teams.
United have started their Premier League campaign with four straight wins, and Chelsea have only dropped two points in an unbeaten run, so the game is set up to be a clash of the titans.
Serbia defender Ivanovic knows his team will face a hostile reception at Old Trafford, and that the London outfit must be at their best.
“United started very well this season, but if you remember, we started last season the same,” he told Mirror Football.
“They’ve improved as a group but we have our aim, we have our idea and we try to use this on the pitch.
“It’s going to be the hardest game for us until now and we have to show more than 100% of our power. It’s the first big, big test for our team, how we’ve improved, and we’re going there trying to show our best football and to take a good result,” he stated.
Ivanovic knows that the fixture is an early season litmus test to see where his Chelsea side are at in comparison to the champions, and has stated that the Stamford Bridge club are going there to win.
“Psychologically, for both teams, it’s a very important game. Every tackle, every pass, everything – you feel directly how strong your opponent’s performance is.
“Last season was a different situation because we had to win there, and when you play a big game away and you have to win, psychologically, it’s completely different.
“Now, we are going there to show our best football and try to do our best result. I don’t know if a draw is a good result. It depends on how the game is going. We’re always looking, every game, to try to win, and we’re looking to win,” he concluded.
Chelsea are fresh from a 2-0 home win over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Tuesday, whilst United had to travel to Portugal to take on Benfica on Wednesday and have a day less to prepare for the fixture.
