Chinese Super League wrap: Liaoning climb, Tianjin Teda held

Liaoning Hongyun climbed to third in the Chinese Super League on Sunday thanks to a 1-0 home win over Hangzhou Lucheng, who slipped to second. In a tense affair at the Shentang Olympic Sports Center Stadium, a goal from 21-year-old striker Yang Zhi on the hour mark was enough to secure a valuable three points for Liaoning and give the home side their third win from their opening four games.

Hangzhou remain in second on goal difference, with both sides on nine points.

Elsewhere on Sunday, last season’s runners-up Tianjin Teda played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Changchun Yatai at Development Area Stadium.

Changchun led 2-0 after 30 minutes thanks to goals from Wang Wanpeng and Du Zhenyu, but Tianjin came storming back into the contest and a goal from Wu Wei’an plus a brace from Argentine ace Luciano Olguin gave them a 3-2 lead with 13 minutes to play.

Just when it appeared Tianjin were on course for a win, the referee awarded Changchun an injury-time penalty and Brazilian striker Nei stepped up to slot it home and ensure honours remained even.

Nanchang Bayi secured their first win of the season with a 1-0 win away from home against Chengdu Blades, courtesy of a 79th-minute goal from Uruguayan striker Diego Vera.

Shenzhen Ruby’s clash with Jiangsu Shuntian was postponed.
