Reports suggest Garry Cook's tenure as Manchester City's chief executive will come to an end in the summer.

The club's Abu Dhabi owners are reported to have lost patience with Cook who has been the subject of several embarrassing gaffes.

In the build-up to this week's second leg of the Carling Cup semi-final against Manchester United, he was filmed telling supporters in New York's Mad Hatter Saloon that City would get to Wembley "not if, but when, we beat United again".

Cook also said that City were on course to become the "biggest and best club in the world" and, after United's 3-1 victory against their city rivals on Wednesday, midfielder Darren Fletcher joked that Sir Alex Ferguson's team had "done their talking on the pitch".

Twelve months ago, after City failed to lure Brazil international Kaka to Eastlands, Cook said AC Milan had "bottled" the transfer.

There was also uproar last month when Cook was made to look foolish at a press conference announcing Roberto Mancini as the club's new manager and, in the past, he described previous owner Thaksin Shinawatra, the deposed prime minister of Thailand, as a nice guy.Subscribe to Football FanCast News Headlines by Email
