Liverpool had a tough time in the transfer window last week when, after allegations of an illegal for Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk, the club released an embarrassing statement ending their interest in the Saints skipper.
However, it seems things could be carrying on in a poor vein this week after star man Philippe Coutinho cast doubt over his future at Anfield.
The Brazilian international has long been linked with a move to Spanish giants Barcelona and, whilst on international duty has been pressed on the issue.
His response was that of a player who has been heavily media-trained, however, there is one word which will have worried fans on Merseyside.
“Talking about this is complicated,” said Coutinho.
“I have a contract with my club and it is long.
“So my focus is on the present and the national team. My focus is here,”
The £34m-rated star played a key role in Jurgen Klopp’s free-flowing attacking side, scoring 14 and setting up a further nine in all competitions.
If the former Borussia Dortmund manager is to build a side capable of making a mark upon their return to the Champions League then keeping hold of the playmaker will be crucial.
