Coyle promised transfer funds

New Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle has been told he will be given money to strengthen the squad this month.

Coyle accepted the Reebok Stadium post after deciding to leave Burnley but faces a tough job keeping the club away from the relegation zone.

Chairman Phil Gartside has vowed to free up money for squad strengthening though, saying:"We've never not backed a manager in the transfer window. We've always done some business and it will carry on that way.

"I remember Owen's playing days at Bolton and he had two-and-a-half fantastic years with us. It was special to me at that time not just as a director but as a supporter. We had some great cup nights and promotions.

"I think the fans will embrace Owen for what he is, a very bubbly character, he's infectious. He likes what he sees here and that's good enough for me.

"We hit it off right away and could have finished (our discussions) in five minutes. We didn't have anyone else on the list.

"This was the only guy we wanted. You have to remember I recommended him to Burnley in the first place."
