Crystal Palace agree record breaking fee

Crystal Palace and Liverpool have agreed a fee of £32million for the transfer of Christian Benteke.

That’s according to Sky Sports, who believe the Eagles have now matched the Reds’ valuation of the Belgian, who is unwanted by Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool paid £32.5million for Benteke from Aston Villa last summer, and now he will become Palace’s biggest ever signing, as Alan Pardew looks for a new star striker. The club have lost Emmanuel Adebayor, Marouane Chamakh and Dwight Gayle this summer. Palace will pay an initial fee of £27million, with £5million in add ons.

Benteke wasn’t included in Liverpool’s squad that won 4-3 at Arsenal last weekend, after Klopp admitted it makes sense for the Belgian to leave Anfield.

The 25-year-old scored 9 goals in the Premier League for the Reds, despite not being their number 1 forward for the campaign. It was the first time in 4 seasons he hadn’t scored double figures in the English top flight.

Palace will now face a race against time to get a deal done in time for him to be allowed to play this weekend against Spurs.
