Crystal Palace have made an £8 million offer for Newcastle United winger Andros Townsend that will trigger his release clause, according to The Mirror.
The Tyneside club were relegated this season and despite Rafa Benitez pledging his future to the Toon side, a host of the current players are expected to jump ship before 2016-17 and new faces arrive to take on The Championship.
Townsend only moved to St James’ Park in January in a £15 million move from Tottenham, but is said to have a clause in his contract that states he can move on for £8 million because Newcastle were relegated.
The flying attacker missed out on England’s Euro 2016 squad despite putting in some strong individual performances for Benitez’s men in the second half of the season.
Palace boss Alan Pardew puts emphasis on width and pace at Selhurst Park and as such Townsend’s potential arrival seems like an ideal move for both the player and the club.
