Crystal Palace join fight for English youngster

Crystal Palace have made a bid to sign West Brom striker Saido Berahino, reports the Sun.

The England youngster is desperate to leave the Baggies, and has been heavily linked with a move to Stoke City.

But now Alan Pardew has thrown his hat into the ring, with reports suggesting their move for Christian Benteke is breaking down. The Eagles are struggling to match the Reds’ price tag for the Belgian.

And Berahino could become a cheaper alternative, with Stoke set to bid £20million for the 23-year-old at the Hawthorns. Berahino has entered the final year of his contract at West Brom, and so this is the last chance West Brom have to get some money for the striker, otherwise he can depart for free next summer.

Palace are hoping to beat Stoke City to his signing, just a couple of days after failing to score against Berahino’s side in their opening Premier League fixture. The Englishman’s strike partner Soloman Rondon scored the only goal of the game.

The transfer window closes on August 31st.
