Daniel Sturridge an Olympic doubt

Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge is being treated for viral meningitis and as such is a doubt for the Olympics, according to Sky Sports.

The Blues forward was named in Stuart Pearce’s Team GB squad for the London Games, and was expected to play a role as one of the side’s main attacking threats.

However, after complaining of feeling unwell last week and showing symptoms of the illness, the talented forward is being treated by the Football Association doctors in hope that he will recover sufficiently in time to feature.

Pearce’s contingent are due to meet up for their first training session this weekend, with their first game on July 26 against Senegal.

If Sturridge is ruled out Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha, who is on the stand-by list, is expected on fill in.
