Former England number one David James has signed for League One side AFC Bournemouth on a deal that runs until the end of the season and James will be able to play today against Wallsall.
James, a free agent after being released by Bristol City this summer, will link up with his former boss, Harry Redknapp, who is currently a consultant at the club.
James is close to making his 1,000th career appearance and Bournemouth manager Paul Groves feels the experienced stopper is exactly what his struggling team need right now.
“David brings professionalism, experience, competition and he is a fantastic person to have around the club,” Groves told BBC Radio Solent this week.
“We want competition for places here. David has been training down in Exeter so he is in good condition as you would expect. He’s had a bit of a break which has helped him and he looks the part.
“I’ve worked with him before and knew what he could bring to the party and that was a big ingredient of bringing him in.
“It works for both parties.”
