Penarol full-back Guillermo Valera is tipped to be David Moyes’ first signing at Manchester United following an impressive trial.
The defender was invited over for a spell with the Premier League champions and did well enough to suggest a summer transfer could now be on the agenda.
Moyes will be looking for defensive reinforcements and cover for first-choice right-back Rafael with Valera a possible first recruit for the incoming manager.
Speaking about his trial with United, Valera said recently: “It was a surprise to get the chance to test with Manchester United. I’m glad and happy, and grateful to Penarol who allowed me to travel.
“I was treated so well and Chicharito [Javier Hernandez] helped me a lot. The work outs were short but very demanding.”
United have apparently offered only £1.2million for the 20-year-old but Penarol value the youngster higher than that amount and will reportedly hold out for at least £3million.
