The England international scored the all-important second goal in Spurs’ 3-1 win over West Brom on Saturday, which makes it nine wins from ten games for Harry Redknapp’s men.
Although Defoe has been used in a squad rotation system, with Redknapp at times preferring to partner Rafael van der Vaart with Emmanuel Adebayor, the attacker was full of praise for the current White Hart Lane squad.
“I think this is the best group of players I’ve been involved with. The squad is unbelievable,” the hitman told Sky Sports.
“We’ve got two great teams in effect we can put out to be honest and it is a great time to be at the club. I just think the sky’s the limit for Tottenham really.”
Defoe is staying positive despite not starting as many matches as he would like this season, and feels that his time on the sidelines has not impacted his match fitness or eye for goal.
“Sometimes when you haven’t played for a while it is difficult in terms of your sharpness.
“But I felt sharp at West Brom. I’ve always kept myself sharp in training even if I have to a little bit extra because I haven’t played.
“I’ve done that and I felt really good,” he concluded.
