Everton have agreed a deal with Los Angeles Galaxy to sign USA international Landon Donovan on loan in January.
The 27-year-old forward will join the Toffees in January 2 on a two-and-a-half month loan.
Donovan is keen to make a temporary move to one of Europe's major leagues in a bid to keep himself fresh ahead of next summer's World Cup Finals.
"A finalised deal is not too far away," confirmed Everton chief executive Robert Elstone.
"Positive discussions have been ongoing and we expect to have Landon join the club when the transfer window opens."
He spent time on loan at Bayern Munich last year, while earlier on in his career he played in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen.
"Everton is a club with a small roster and a congested schedule over the next few weeks and months," added Galaxy coach Bruce Arena.
"It's a great fit, we are pretty confident that is where he'll end up."
The Toffees already have one US international in goalkeeper Tim Howard on their books.
