Manchester United have been told to halt their efforts in trying to convince Borussia Dortmund to let loanee Adnan Januzaj return early, Manchester Evening News reports.
The 20-year-old struggled for regular playing time at Old Trafford and was eventually allowed to join the Bundesliga giants on a season-long loan.
Despite his recent departure, Januzaj has also failed to hold down a regular role under Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel.
Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has come out to admit that he isn’t looking to let go of their current loanee, but has no room to deploy the winger given the form of the other players in the squad.
“That’s currently not an issue,” he said.
“We play an extraordinary season, and the others do an incredible job.
“There is no reason to bench them.”
The Belgium international was linked with a return after remarks made by manager Louis van Gaal over his need to reinforce his attacking line up with more wingers.
However, with the player not likely to return to the Premier League in January, the Red Devils may continue their efforts to sign top target Sadio Mane from Southampton.
