Doyle the ideal for McCarthy

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy hopes to bring in four or five quality recruits to bolster his Molineux squad in the summer.

McCarthy is aware that his side need to be stronger next season after avoiding an immediate return to the Championship, but he will only bring in a certain type of player.

He told the Express & Star:Kevin Doyle has scored eight goals and has played the second half of the season on his own up front.

“We paid good money for Doyle and he’s proved to be top-drawer.

“So if we can get someone of that ilk – where you can ask him to play wide left and he does it without complaint – that would be great because he’s a fabulous character.

“The biggest challenge is to get four or five players to make us better, but with a similar disposition, attitude, work ethic, work-rate and character.

“I’m not suggesting British players are better, but it’s easier to integrate them.

“Ronald Zubar has been brilliant, but it took him about three months before he got up to the pace of the game. I wouldn’t want to wait three months with four or five others.

“If they’re to improve the squad, I’d like them to be up to speed straight away.”
