Dutch legend expects Van Gaal to be tough with ‘failing’ Manchester United striker

Former Chelsea manager and Holland legend Ruud Gullit is looking forward to how new Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal deals with striker Wayne Rooney, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Gullit feels Rooney is one of the many players to have failed last season, despite ending as United top scorer and dragging them out of holes on regular occasions.

Van Gaal will only arrive at Old Trafford after the World Cup where he hopes to lead Holland to success but Rooney’s England have similar ideas.

Gullit knows all about van Gaal and his temperament and expects strong words to be had between the new boss and their star striker.

‘I will be interested to see how things go between Van Gaal and Rooney,’ Gullit said in The Sun.

‘Rooney is one of the senior players who seriously failed this season, so how will that conversation go?

‘Van Gaal is the right man for the situation United find themselves in.

‘He has the good fortune that some members of the old guard have left.’
