England captain slams horrific tackles from friendly opponents

England skipper Steven Gerrard was left fuming after last night’s friendly with Honduras, as reported by Sky Sports.

The Three Lions were held to a 0-0 draw by their Central American counterparts and any optimism about the World Cup appears to have evaporated.

England face Italy next Saturday and will have to step it up if they want to beat their European counterparts  – but the game will arguably be less physical than last night.

Honduras mistimed a number of dangerous tackles and Gerrard is thankful that no players were harmed.

“I think if you look at the chances we had the better, but we’re quite frustrated,” Gerrard told ITV 1.

“I’m quite frustrated. I thought the ref was poor, the game was interrupted, there was a big one in the first half and they were doing stupid fouls.

“There was no rhythm, we’re frustrated but relieved at no injuries.

“I thought there were some horrific tackles for a friendly. I got caught with a bad one.”
