England legend Stuart Pearce has urged Arsenal to sign Manchester City star Yaya Toure, who is set to leave the club this summer, according to reports from talkSPORT.
Toure has been heavily linked with a move away from the Etihad in recent weeks despite having one year remaining on his current contract, with reports claiming that his agent expects him to leave if Pep Guardiola is appointed as the manager.
And with the confirmation that the Spaniard is taking over the City helm, Toure is set to look for a new club this summer.
However, it seems as if the Ivory Coast international is keen on staying in the English top flight, making Pearce urge the Gunners to sign Toure in order to add some much needed strength and power to their midfield.
“On his day Yaya Toure is outstanding,” he said on the Colin Murray show.
“Arsenal need an old head within the team.
“Petr Cech has proved a fantastic success this year at Arsenal, and to have a player like Toure at the centre of midfield, as that holding type of player, I think he’d give one or two of the youngsters a bit of a lift.
“I think he’d be a good signing for them.”
The 32-year-old has made 38 appearances in all competitions for the Sky Blues this term, scoring eight goals and supplying seven assists.
