England will take on Wales in qualifying after the two nations were placed in the same Euro 2012 group.
Switzerland, Bulgaria and Montenegro were also drawn in Group G alongside the two Home Nations ahead of the tournament in Poland and Ukraine.
England last played Wales in a World Cup qualifier in Cardiff five years ago with the Three Lions running out 1-0 winners.
"I think the worst groups were group A and group G and we got group G," said England coach Fabio Capello after the draw in Warsaw.
"It's a tough group because each game will be strong games to play."
Capello also refused to answer questions on John Terry following his decision to strip the Chelsea defender of the international captaincy in the wake of the lurid allegations about his private life.
Meanwhile, Scotland have been handed a tough test after being drawn in a group which also contains holders Spain and Czech Republic.
The Republic of Ireland have been drawn in Russia's group, while Northern Ireland must face reigning world champions Italy.
The qualifying games will begin in September and the nine group winners will all progress to the finals alongside the runners-up with the best records.
