Under-fire Napoli manager Rafael Benitez, who used to be in charge of Liverpool and Chelsea, has become a potential target for champions Manchester City, according to reports from the Metro.
Benitez was reportedly furious with his side after Napoli’s 2-0 loss to Verona during the weekend, which sees the Partenopei slip away from the last Champions League spot.
And now Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis is mulling over offering Benitez a new contract, which has alerted the Premier League champions over his potential availability.
City manager Manuel Pellegrini has also been under some intense pressure recently, and unless the Sky Blues can overturn a 2-1 deficit in the Champions League second leg against Barcelona, then the former Malaga boss will be facing the sack.
Benitez has experience managing in the Premier League before, winning the Champions League in 2005 and the FA Cup the following year with Liverpool, before a short stint as Chelsea’s interim manager from 2012-2013.
