Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier has stated that his side must not engage Chelsea striker Diego Costa in the face of provocation this weekend.
The White Hart Lane outfit host their London rivals on Sunday, with the Spain international seen as a villain by the rest of the Premier League.
Costa got Arsenal defender Gabriel sent off by inciting him in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over the Gunners earlier this season, with the Brazil-born attacker accused of unsavoury tactics.
Dier has stated that Spurs’ defensive pairing Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld must not get caught up in the Blues forward’s games and instead focus on their own individual performances.
“Just don’t get involved with him,” Dier’s advice to the centre-half pairing was according to The Telegraph.
“I think he feeds off it and it helps him, so the best thing to do is worry about playing your own game.”
Spurs enter the game on the back of a 12-game unbeaten Premier League run and are looking like a side fully capable of finishing in the top four this season.
Chelsea’s form has improved in recent weeks but Jose Mourinho’s men are still a considerable distance off the business end of the table.
