Chelsea and Ghana star Michael Essien has suffered another injury blow while on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The midfielder will miss the rest of the Black Stars' tournament after being taken to a Luanda hospital on Sunday to have tests after injuring a knee in training.
The scans have shown that he has suffered a partially torn medial ligament in his left knee and damage to his meniscus.
Ghana are struggling to qualify for the quarter-finals after losing 3-1 to Ivory Coast in their opening Group B clash.
They must beat Burkina Faso to finish second in the three-team group.
Essien has not played since Chelsea's Champions League draw with APOEL Nicosia last month because of a hamstring injury.
