Michael Essien has enjoyed regular football during his loan spell with Real Madrid and does not want to return to the Chelsea bench.
Essien has impressed for Real under the leadership of Jose Mourinho after joining them on a season-long loan deal last summer and he will only return to Chelsea if he can play first-team football.
The Ghana international has proven his versatility by playing not only in midfield but at right-back and says he has enjoyed his time with the Spanish giants.
“It’s been good, I can’t complain,” Essien said of his time at the Bernabeu. “I’m happy and have enjoyed the football. I’ve played a lot at right-back and I’ve enjoyed playing.
“It doesn’t matter what position, it is just nice to be on the pitch.”
Essien faces an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge and much will depend on who takes over as manager if, as expected, Rafa Benitez leaves at the end of the season.
