Everton goalkeeper Time Howard claims that after being dropped, Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet will have trouble taking back his number-one spot, Daily Star reports.
Mignolet has had a poor season for the Reds, resulting in Brendan Rodgers dropping the Belgian in favour of back-up keeper Brad Jones.
And during the launch of his autobiography titled ‘The Keeper’, Howard showed some sympathy for his rival in this tough period.
“You have to appreciate with a goalkeeper there are going to be ups and downs – especially in this league.
“It is hard. I feel for Simon. I know he is Red. It is hard being a goalkeeper, I don’t agree with it.
“The phrase is taking someone out of the spotlight, but you actually put the spotlight on them even more.”
The American was rotated with Roy Carroll during his stint at Manchester United, and then offloaded after the Red Devils purchased Edwin van der Sar.
He said: “When you get taken out of the team, the spotlight is supposed to be taken off you but really it gets put on you.
“When you go back into the team, you don’t care about the team’s results. You just don’t want to make another mistake.
“That’s what happened at United. I was out, Roy was in. Roy was out, I was in.
“I didn’t care if United won. I cared if I played well. I didn’t want to be back on the bench.”
