Both Everton and Arsenal are waiting in the wings to find out whether Lewis Holtby will renew his contract with Schalke, according to talkSPORT.
The 22 year old midfielder’s deal with the German club expires this summer and negotiations are on-going with a resolution expected in due course.
General Manager of Schalke Horst Heldt has stated, “Negotiations are in the end phase, it’s down to details,”
“A decision will be made before the year ends. I’ll only look into it (selling in January) if someone expresses an interest.”
It is thought that both Arsenal and Everton would be keen to sign the player in January for a cut-price deal. A pre-contract agreement could also be discussed if Holtby decides not to renew with the Gelsenkirchen based team. It is though that a move to Goodison Park would be the youngster’s ideal destination, as he is a self-confessed Everton fan.
Holtby has always expressed a desire to one day play in the Premier League and was eligible to play for England through his Father, before he was handed a German cap in 2010.
