Everton boss patient over midfielder’s future

Gareth Barry (Everton)

Everton manager Roberto Martinez will wait until the end of the season to discuss Gareth Barry’s future at the club, as reported by Sky Sports.

Barry is on loan at Goodison Park from Manchester City for the season and the England man has impressed so far on Merseyside.

With Darren Gibson set for a long term absence and Ross Barkley’s inexperience, Barry has become a key man in the middle of the pitch for the Toffees.

Martinez will not make a January bid for Barry to come to Everton permanently but the Spaniard may step up his pursuit of the England man at the end of the season if he continues his fine form.

“No, Barry is here until the end of the season, that cannot be affected.

“All we want is for him to enjoy his football and to be effective for Everton and then we will take it from there.

“We are blessed with quality in the squad. We don’t want to lose any player, but there is a chance now for others in the squad. Then we will assess in January.”
