Baines enjoyed a fine season as one of the Premiership’s best full-backs scoring 5 goals in 38 league appearances. City have been keen on the defender for some time and first enquired last summer. However, Everton manager David Moyes could now be willing to do business for the right price in order to raise funds to strengthen his side.
Baines moved to Everton from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2007 in a £5 million deal and has since made 160 appearances for the club. The set-piece specialist also broke into the England set-up last year but was unfortunate to miss out on the final World Cup squad.
Everton are determined to hold out for £20 million for their star left-back and City are rumoured to be keen on a part-exchange deal. Boss Roberto Mancini will reportedly offer £10 million plus the choice of two players, including Emmanuel Adebayor, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Wayne Bridge and Craig Bellamy.
Moyes is on a very tight budget at Goodison Park and hopes the sale will fund a move for Wigan winger Charles N’Zogbia. Defender Joseph Yobo could also make his move to Fenerbahce permanent in an attempt to raise more much-needed funds.
