Everton braced for Man City mega bid this week as star snubs contract talks

According to reports from The Daily Mail, Everton are expecting a £50million transfer bid for John Stones this week from Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola appears determined to improve his defensive options via the transfer market and the club’s interest in the Toffees defender has notably escalated since like-minded target Aymeric Laporte signed a new contract with Athletic Bilbao.

The Citizens’ long-standing interest in the prodigious centre-back is no great secret and The Liverpool Echo reported earlier this month that Stones has already informed the Goodison outfit of his intentions to work under Guardiola next season.

The England international suspiciously sat out Everton’s pre-season friendly with former club Barnsley on Saturday and The Daily Mail claim Ronald Koeman’s side are now ‘expecting’ a £50million bid from City by the end of the week.

The British newspaper further add that they were prepared to offer Stones an improved contract, but he’s instead reaffirmed his desire to sign for the Etihad outfit.
