That’s according to ESPNFC, who claim the Toffees have triggered the £7.1million release clause in the Senegal international’s contract, as Ronald Koeman closes in on his second signing since taking over at Goodison Park.
Gueye only joined Villa last season, playing in 35 Premier League games as Villa were relegated from the top-flight. His only goal came in the FA Cup against League 2 Wycombe Wanderers.
But now in the Championship, Gueye is understandably keen to move away from Villa Park, and despite rumoured interest from France, it seems Everton are the most likely destination after triggering that clause.
Koeman has only made one signing so far, adding Martin Stekelenburg to the club, with only a few weeks until the season starts. His first game of the new season is at home to Spurs on August 13th.
With the clause now triggered, the Senegalese midfielder is set to travel to Merseyside, for both personal talks and a medical.
