Everton consider director of football role, ex-Arsenal player in mix

Everton are tossing up the possibility of bringing a director of football to the club over the summer, with club legend Joe Royle and former Arsenal winger Marc Overmars in contention for the role according to The Daily Mail.

The Toffees had a disappointing 2015-16 and as such are expected to face a battle to hold onto their best players, especially John Stones and Romelu Lukaku.

With a new owner at the helm on Merseyside, the Goodison Park club are expected to undergo a serious revamp over the summer.

Roberto Martinez was given his marching orders due to poor domestic form and the club are in the market to recruit a new manager also.

The director of football role could be interesting, with Royle’s inside knowledge of the club potentially a valuable asset.

Overmars meanwhile is in a similar role at Ajax currently and his move to Everton would be fitting should candidate Frank De Boer get the manager’s job.
