Everton hit with injury woe

Everton are facing a defensive crisis for their game against Aston Villa at the weekend, with Phil Neville potentially having to play at centre half.

With Tony Hibbert and Phil Jagielka already injured, Sylvain Distin also picked up a knock and had to be replaced in The Toffees’ 2-0 defeat to Tottenham on Wednesday.

Full back Neville may well have to play more centrally, but is not relishing the prospect of playing out of position.

“I’ve played there before, but I’m not really a centre back,” the veteran told Mirror Football.

“We probably are down to the bare bones. Hibbert, who could have played there, is out as well. It’s the way of the world at Everton. It’s been like that in the past. But somehow the gaffer always manages to make sure we get results.

“It’s not something we ever panic about,” he stated.

Fellow full back Leighton Baines has also expressed a concern, despite stating that youngster Shane Duffy did well when he deputised for Distin at White Hart Lane.

“Duffy came on and did well, but you just find yourself hoping another doesn’t go down because who’s left after that? We’re struggling for numbers.

“It’s nothing new. We’ve been here before and we know what we’ve got to do in those situations. We can adapt.

“Whoever comes in, whether it’s someone coming back or Duffy, we’ll just get on with it,” he concluded.
